Formica Digital Service
A service providing custom-designed high pressure laminates, typically through digital and screen printing processes.

Abstract (Style)
The overall styling emulates organic forms: random, undulating effects.

Blocked (Woodgrain Effect)
Woodgrains in which small sections or blocks of timber are joined together to create a distinctive effect (such as marquetry) or pattern.

Cathedralled (Woodgrain Effect)
Cathedral or crown motifs appear in the woodgrain; veneers are book matched; design features of similar character repeat across the woodgrain.

Colour References
For each laminate in its Plain Colours range, Formica Limited gives the nearest available match to Natural Colour System (NCS) samples, using the NCS edition 2 coding with the prefix S. In addition, nearest available matches to the references in the RAL Design and RAL Classic systems are given where appropriate. These references are given as a guide only: some colours may not exactly match the colour standards quoted. Formica Limited recommends that you examine actual laminate samples before specifying, fabricating or installing.

Design
The patterns, colours and shades unique to a particular Formica® laminate item.

Directional Orientation
Visual appearance may change with change in viewing angle.

Geometric (Style)
The overall styling emulates geometric forms: lines, circles, squares.

Graphic (Style)
The overall styles are descriptive or decorative, and are produced by screen print or digital means.

Natural (Style)
The overall styling simulates forms found in nature or natural materials.

Non-directional Orientation
Visual appearance does not change with change in viewing angle.

Ornate (Woodgrain Effect)
Timbers or veneers have inherent or distinctive markings such as burl or birdseye; colour or treatment is added to enhance or vary the timber; the appearance of the timber has added aesthetic value.

Particulate (Style)
The overall styling emulates granular forms: random, speckled effects.

Plain (Style)
A straightforward, unembellished surface with no pattern or direction. Plain-style laminate can be cut and used without repeats or differentiating marks. The style includes the smooth, solid colours of the Plain Colours and ColorCore ranges of laminate.

Planked (Woodgrain Effect)
Contrasts appear between planks as they would on joining natural timbers; veneers show joins, have been slip matched, or have been matched randomly so that different characteristics can be seen side-by-side.

Schemes
For each laminate item shown on the web site, Formica Limited suggests three other items which for design purposes might, in principle, coordinate particularly well with the item concerned.

Simple (Woodgrain Effect)
Timbers or veneers are gently figured to aid matching; low contrast between the grain or colour of the wood, or between joints in veneers, creates a continuous effect across the sheet.
